Earthquakes
Earthquakes are expected geologic hazards, but they are not yet predictable in terms of precise time, place, and energy. The municipality may experience tectonic earthquakes related to major geologic structures such as the Philippine Fault and the Mindanao Trench.
Determining the location of major faults is important because ground rupture may occur along them. The published municipal record identifies the western parts of Barangays Maniki and Mabantao as areas of higher concern. Strict adherence to the National Building Code and more detailed geological investigation can help reduce risk.
